The Ting Tings have admitted they were a really ropey live act before they topped the charts. Singer Katie White was so bad, in fact, she didn't even know how to turn on her amplifier. The duo's drummer Jules De Martino said: "We did our first proper gig at the Birmingham Barfly. It was where Katie picked up the guitar for the first time - but she couldn't get the sound out. She had to ask the audience what to do and they shouted back - 'Turn the amp on!'" (Daily Star).

Studio Fire Destroys Movie History
Latest: A King Kong exhibit and the set from the Back To The Future movies were among the film gems destroyed by the fire that raged through Universal Studios in California on Sunday (1June08). The fire also destroyed a huge video archive of Universal movies and TV shows, but bosses insist the film is replaceable. Studio boss Ron Meyer says, "We have duplicates of everything. Nothing is lost forever." Investigators have yet to establish the cause of the inferno, which has caused damage worth millions of dollars. It's the second blaze at Universal Studios in 18 years. The last one, in 1990, was started by a security guard and caused $25 million (?12.5 million) in damage.

K-Fed Named Father of the Year
With all the money and time Kevin Federline spends at Las Vegas nightclubs, it seems fair that one of them give him something in return, right?
How about a Father of the Year award? On Tuesday, Las Vegas nightclub Prive announced plans to throw K-Fed a huge bash on June 13, honoring him with a Father of the Year award at the party inside the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
No word on where K-Fed's kids (all four of them) will be when he parties the night away gets his Father's Day award. We're just sayin'!

50 Cent Denies LIghting Fires
50 Cent's lawyer has slammed accusations that the rapper had anything to do with a house fire that damaged a property his ex-girlfriend and their 10-year-old son lived in on Friday (May 30).
A fire broke out in the house, which is owned by the rapper - born Curtis Jackson - and located in New York's Dix Hills, at around 5am on Friday. The property had been the subject of courtroom drama in recent days as Jackson's lawyers attempted to evict his ex, Shaniqua Tompkins.
Six people, including Tompkins and their son Marquise, were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Tompkins held an impromptu press conference at the burned out house, telling the media that the rapper is obsessed with her saying, "He's like 'If I can't have you, no-one can'."
She claims that the star is planning to murder her - "He said that he's gonna have someone come kill me and watch what he does, and this is what he did," she told reporters - and added that he had made no contact with her regarding the health of their son.
The rapper's rep issued a statement saying that 50 Cent is "filming a new motion picture on location in Louisiana," and that he "expressed deep concern over this fire at his property. He is extremely thankful that everyone including his son, Marquise, escaped the burning house safely."
Jackson's lawyer, Brett Kimmel, also said via press release, "Any suggestion that Mr. Jackson had anything whatsoever to do with the fire at his home is outrageous and offensive."

Actor JACK BLACK has become a father for the second time.
The King Kong star and wife Tanya Haden welcomed their second child "weeks ago", reports Entertainment Tonight.
Black - who let slip to reporters about Angelina Jolie's pregnancy - confirmed the news at an event to promote his new movie Kung Fu Panda in Los Angeles on Saturday (31May08).
He told reporters, "I have a new one. It's eating every three hours.
"You just got to make all the time precious with the babies when you're working ...You get an hour in the morning, and an hour at night, and you really make the most of that time."
The baby's name and sex is unknown.
Black and Haden married in 2006. They have a son, Samuel, who turns two this month (Jun08).
